“Pride, The Chameleon”
There is a group of people who are most easily deceived. These are those who are already deceived in some way. It takes very little energy to further deceive them, to cause them to continue along the road of deception.
The Deceived
I have been deceived at various times in my life.
Sometimes it was not my fault, but at other times I willingly participated in the deception. I didn’t realize that I was being deceived or that I was even taking part in it, but that is the very nature of deception.
Without any investigation, I decided how things were, what things were true and how I would conduct my life. I bought into the lies of Satan. The lie revolved around my base nature. I wanted to please myself and ‘get what everyone else had!’
The desire to have what the world offered me in the way of pleasure and comfort was the base for my belief system. I had completely disavowed my upbringing in Roman Catholicism, (I’ll write about this at great length in later blogs, please bear with me until then!)
Satan does not care if I go to hell as a worldly person or as a member of a cult. His bottom line is to get as many people as possible to disregard Christ, the real Christ; so that they will end up in hell.
The ‘Chameleon of Pride’ had me convinced that I had missed out on the ‘Good things’ in life. Chasing women, booze, big boy toys, and whatever else the world had to offer in the way of ‘forbidden pleasures,’ was the bait! Satan had me convinced that these things were being withheld from me by religion.
Having suffered greatly ‘At the hands of the Catholic Church,’ pun intended, I railed against all forms of ‘religion!’
Inoculation!
A vaccine is either a weak live virus or a dead one that is given to a person to inoculate them against the target disease.
The purpose of this inoculation is to make a person immune to the real thing!
Cults are a tool of the devil used to inoculate people against the real thing, true Christianity! There is ‘True Christianity,’ on one hand and then there are all others!
True Christianity stands alone! The rest are phonies!
Satan knew early on that he could not destroy the church, so he joined it instead!
He inoculated people with a vaccine against the real thing. These poor souls think that they have True Christianity, but they do not. They have been inoculated against the real thing by phony religion!
This is Satan’s greatest work! To convince a large portion of people that they have Christ when they are really worshiping an idol is his scheme. It has been hugely successful, unfortunately.
Mat 7:13-14 NASB “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. (14) “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
This is a very sad thing. Few will find it because they have been inoculated with a terrible vaccine that makes them immune to the real thing.
How is this possible?
Pride The Chameleon
I wouldn’t admit that pride was the root of my deception when I was a ‘Card Carrying Pagan’ but hind sight is 20-20! Eventually, I could no longer deny that I wanted what I wanted because I wanted it, I had been self absorbed and self centered. Woe to him who stood in my way of acquiring them!
I didn’t care much about doing ‘The right thing’ or following civil law, let alone ‘The Law of God!’
Pride was the root cause of my worldliness! I was completely deceived. My big mistake was to not investigate the claims of the bible. Later on, after careful and thorough investigation, I was shocked to learn just how wrong I had been.
Humiliation Turned to Humility
I was so thoroughly embarrassed by the realization of how wrong I had been. I realized that I had bought the lie, hook line and sinker. I had been hoodwinked! Satan had appealed to my base nature. He deceived me, but fortunately, Christ had other plans for me.
My humiliation soon turned to humility. I accepted Christ, the real Jesus Christ of the bible as my Lord and Savior. He rules in my life today. By the grace of God, through faith alone, I trust the finished work of Christ on the cross. He paid a debt he did not owe for a debt I could not pay.
He paid the price in full for all my sins, past, present and future.
Eph 2:8-9 NASB For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; (9) not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Pride leads the list of the seven deadly sins for good reason. It is insidious! It will take hold of the unsuspecting in ways they never imagined!
It is a crying shame that people remain unsaved although they are very religious!
Pew warmers, I call them. They think that the sermons are for ‘someone else!’ Certainly not them; as they mentally rehearse their laundry list of accomplishments ‘of good works!’
Eph 2:10NASB For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
Verse 10 makes it very clear; we are saved for good works and NOT by good works!
Closing
Have you thoroughly investigated the claims of the bible? I found out that Jesus Christ is exactly whom he claims to be.
The evidence is overwhelming! What evidence? You might say! I could tell you but you would not believe me. You must investigate it, find out for yourself! Only then will you be convinced!
If you have not investigated these claims, what is stopping you from doing so?
Could it be pride? No one likes to admit it when they are proven wrong. I was embarrassed by having to do so.
The alternative of not finding out for yourself is eternity in hell. Hell is a real place and it is the default residence of all mankind without the free pardon that only Jesus Christ provides.
Please don’t put it off. No one is guaranteed a single breath beyond the one he is presently breathing. Do it now.
