A long time ‘Facebook Friend’ became irritated and wrote unkindly to me after I told him that I was taking him out of my news feeds, (not unfriending him) for his belligerent O.S.A.S. post. Clearly, in these End Times, ‘the love of many has grown cold’!
“At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. (Mat 24:10-12 NASB)
There are bigger fish to fry than arguing among and with our Christian brethren about non-salvation issues. Doctrine is important, but so is brotherly love, the love of Jesus. I don’t see the love of Jesus in arguments that will never be satisfied this side of eternity. There are more important things to do’, more souls to be saved, more brothers and sisters in desperate need of a kind word, and some encouragement than this.
O.S.A.S. is a stupid thing to argue over. Here’s why. It basically argues ‘How much sin can a person get away with and still get to heaven’!
This is a wrong attitude!
A better attitude is to do as much as possible to insure that I am the best possible Christian that I can be, (beatitudes come to mind here), and have the very best outlook toward God, (he is in charge & I am not), and continually embracing the Christ centered law of ‘love thy neighbor as thy self’!
I don’t see a lot of brotherly love going around during these arguments.
Instead of seeing how much sin we can get away with and still get to heaven, why not focus on doing the most for the ‘most high’? Rather than walking close to the ‘sin line’ as possible without going over it, why not stay as far away from sin as possible? Isn’t that a better attitude!
“At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another.
“Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. (Mat 24:10,11,12 NASB)
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, (1Ti 4:1 NASB)
Clearly, if ‘Some’ fall way from the faith,’ they must have had faith to begin with.
Here, ‘falling away’ means ‘loosing salvation’ but not like ‘loosing a set or car keys.’
Falling away indicates ‘willingly turning away from faith’ in an act of total defiance against God!
Heb 6:4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
Heb 6:5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
Heb 6:6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.
Heb 6:7 For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;
Heb 6:8 but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.
that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears. (Heb 12:16-17 NASB)
Can we ‘loose our salvation?’ Not like loosing a pair of gloves, but ‘we can throw it away in an act of willful defiance against God.
In these, the ‘End Times’, insulting or betraying a brother or sister is counterproductive, especially over issues like O.S.A.S.
